Study programmes

The study program prepares for the practice fully qualified teachers of Czech language and literature at primary and secondary schools, graduates with qualification for further linguistic and literary work at scientific and scientific-pedagogical bohemistic institutions and in all those places where a thorough knowledge of Czech language and literature is presupposed.
In the language part, the field competencies acquired in the bachelor study program are further enriched by covering philological subjects oriented directly to teaching practice (Complex language analysis and Rhetoric and culture of spoken expression). Deepened knowledge of the frontier linguistic disciplines is ensured by a set of compulsory optional subjects. The existing field knowledge are transformed into a didactic knowledge of the content and, taking into account the latest psychodidactic knowledge, used for the transfer of competencies of field didactics.
The literary part of the study develops and consolidates the competences acquired in the previous bohemistic studies, in particular the ability to professionally versatile and creative interpretation of literary works, and links them to didactic and educational aspects. The subject knowledge of the student are broadened by compulsory course of World literature; compulsory course of Didactics of literature focuses on a versatile analysis of texts with the aim of raising pupils to think about the meanings and meaning of literary works, to the development of reading, to deep and erudite thinking of (literary) art and text and about building its significance in reading. Compulsory subjects are supplemented by compulsory optional subjects: Selected chapters from the world literature and Literature for children and youth.
The focus of the study program is aimed at field didactics, reinforced both by Integrated classroom observation practice from the Czech Language and by continuous reflective field practice. The program is accompanied by recommended elective courses that focus among other things on the current issues of contemporary didactics. The program is accompanied by recommended optional courses, which are oriented, among other things, on current questions of contemporary didactics.

The single-major plan Education in Czech Language and Literature responds to the increasingly urgent issue of inclusion within the Czech language as a central subject. The plan is focused on deepening the qualifications of teachers of Czech language and literature, as well as on the issue of pupils with special educational needs, including pupils with different mother tongues, and gifted pupils in teaching Czech language and literature, through a range of purposefully profiled subject and didactic subjects. In the language part, the newly added profile subject Selected Problems of Contrastive Linguistics and Psycholinguistics and three compulsory elective courses serve this purpose: Psycholinguistics and specific learning disorders as an educational problem of the Czech language, Linguistic bases of teaching a pupil with special educational needs, Linguistic bases of teaching a pupil with a different mother tongue. With regard to the goals formulated above, new three compulsory elective subjects have been added for the literary part: Literary adaptation in the teaching of pupils with special educational needs, Interpretation of the literary canon for pupils with special educational needs, Literature as a part of the cultural field in the broader context of current educational needs.
The subject didactics has been extended to a special pedagogical, developmental psychological and special didactic point of view. According to the according to the current cultural and language situation in Czech schools, the Basics of the Russian Language for Bohemians have added to the elective subjects.
The graduates of the single-major Czech Language ane Literature have an excellent grasp of all linguistic disciplines, literary disciplines, inter-disciplines and didactics. They have adequate didactic expertise, both theoretical and practical. This includes various specific aspects of utilizing their linguistic and literary prowess in practical teaching applications. Therefore, not only the staff of the Departments of Czech Language and Czech Literature directly participates in the program, but also the staff of the Department of Special Education and the Department of Psychology, who deal with the issue of pupils with SEN. In addition, the study of the Czech language in full plan will enable a focused and in-depth approach to Czech issues, both from a professional and didactic point of view.
