Study programmes

Graduates of the follow-up Master's degree have extensive knowledge of German language, literature and culture, which they are able to place in a broader European context, achieving communicative competence at C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference. The linguistic component of the study field includes theoretical knowledge of the language system in a confrontational Czech-German perspective and practical skills with a view to the ability to further independent development and education in the graduated field. The graduate comprehensively understands the relationships between the individual language components both theoretically in a systemic way and when applied in a practical situational context. The literary studies component focuses on the history and theory of German literature from the earliest literary fragment to contemporary literature works. The graduate student is able to understand different types of literary texts, the students are able to implement literature into the teaching process, they can actively use different methods and tools. The priority of the course is to prepare the graduate for the profession of German language teacher. The graduate is familiar with linguistic and didactic theory, which he/she can creatively apply to his/her own teaching of German as a foreign and other foreign language in a Czech school; he/she is able to make effective use of modern technologies and didactic techniques in his/her teaching; however, above all, he/she is capable of appropriate didactic reflection and transformation of knowledge in the field of language, literature and culture; he/she is aware of the nature and specifics of the teaching profession in the broadest sense.
Within the framework of the combined study in the full plan, the student reaches the higher C2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference and acquires a deepened and expanded theoretical knowledge of the language system in a confrontational Czech-German perspective and practical skills with a view to the ability to further independent development and education in the graduated field. The full curriculum in the associate degree also substantially expands the graduate's ability to orient himself in the so-called minority literatures of the German language, especially his knowledge of German-language literature from the Czech lands, Austria and Switzerland.
