The study programme Training History Teachers for Lower and Higher Secondary Schools is a follow-up Master’s programme primarily for history teachers at all types of schools.
It further develops the Bachelor’s students’ competence primarily in didactics of history as the primary study focus and in associate fields. The Master’s study is focused on developing the student’s overall professional background, facilitates their individual work and takes into account their specific field of study (which manifests primarily in their formulation of the Diploma thesis topic and also in the selection of special proficiency seminars). The programme promotes competence and experience by means of teaching practice sessions on both elementary and secondary schools.
It further develops the Bachelor’s students’ competence primarily in didactics of history as the primary study focus and in associate fields. The follow-up Master’s study programme Training History Teachers for Lower and Higher Secondary Schools qualifies the graduate for vocational teaching practice at all types of schools and both educational and specialty jobs by providing them with relevant theoretical and practical skills. The graduate is competent enough to adopt and elaborate on recent updates in scholarly knowledge of history as well as on contemporary trends in education and learning, facilitate understanding in the general field of humanities and development of critical thinking, and build up the pupils’ civic consciousness and sense of respect for democratic and humanist values.
