The main objective of the magisterial study programme is to follow the previous bachelor-level programme and to deepen further the undergraduates´ linguistic, literary, didactic, pedagogical and psychological knowledge and also to enhance their pertinent skills, including their practical formulation skills in English and didactic ones. It has to be stressed that in rendering the cluster of linguistic, literary and didactic disciplines their mutual interrelationships are emphasized with a view to achieve the target profile of the graduate. The courses are taught in English exclusively, the core disciplines being compulsory. The study programme seeks to produce specialists – anglicists primarily for educational settings. For this reason it has to be highly complex, striving to achieve in graduates a perfect balance between thee prominent components, see their proficient command of English at C2 level, their linguistic and literary erudition and their ability to apply their knowledge creatively in teaching, using modern procedures. The graduate is an erudite expert with a deep insight in linguistic and literary disciplines, capable of couching their ideas in a precise, stylistically appropriate and cultivated manner with regard to the changeable parameters of the communicative situation. They are able to demonstrate their profound knowledge theoretically as well as to transform it felicitously and efficiently in the teaching processes at all types of schools.
The single-major study is tailored for students whose career aspirations are firmly associated with the Anglosphere. Unlike double-major, this type of study gives the students the benefit of exclusive focus, which helps them considerably deepen their knowledge and skill base, and acquire a more contextual perspective that spans the entire spectrum of the subject field, including the current trends and the most recent findings. This study programme offers a platform that can consolidate and enhance the knowledge acquired at the undergraduate level, and integrate this into a coherent system along with the knowledge and skills acquired in the magisterial study programme. This consolidation process is likely to be appreciated by students who earned their B.A. at a different institution. This platform also allows for a thorough interconnection between individual components of the study programme. The colourful palette of elective and optional courses enables the students to choose a special niche that fits their own dispositions and interests. This programme familiarises the students with many factors that influence the creation of written and oral utterances of various styles, it highlights the association between language and thinking, and examines various varieties of language and their roots. The study will give the graduate a substantial grounding in literary and cultural studies relating to the Anglophone world, including its most recent cultural and social trends and transformations. The graduates will be able to perform a competent and nuanced interpretation of a given text or discourse, using conceptual tools from linguistics or literary studies. Last, but not least, the students will gain an insight into the most progressive and efficient trends in didactics, an expertise which they will find indispensable for their future careers. The full-fledged study of English single major will also make the graduate far more erudite and competitive within the target segment of the job market. The single major study programme will also equip the graduate for the doctoral study, should s/he be interested in that option.
The single-major graduates are erudite professionals whose expertise stretches across a wide range of linguistic and literary disciplines and inter-disciplines, capable of couching their ideas in a precise, stylistically appropriate and cultivated manner with regard to the changeable parameters of the communicative situation. They are able to demonstrate their in-depth knowledge theoretically as well as to transform it felicitously and efficiently in the teaching processes at all types of schools.
