SP characteristics
The Sociology degree programme pursues two basic objectives: (1) to prepare high-quality graduates for a follow-up Master's degree in Sociology, be it at the CU Faculty of Arts, or another foreign or Czech university; (2) to equip graduates with the key sociological competences expected of them as Bachelors of Sociology on the labour market. While the first point is secured by the study plan as a whole, the second is based mainly on the area of methodological subjects, as it is the practical knowledge and skills in the field of sociological research that are most important for graduates to apply in practice after the Bachelor's degree. The programme includes direct teaching in key subjects and also counts on extensive independent work by students within the seminar parts of the subjects. This prepares them for active mastery of the acquired knowledge and skills and the ability to use them in practice.

Graduate profile for the public:
Graduates of the Sociology degree programme possess professional knowledge, skills and general competencies that enable them to continue studying sociology without problems in the follow-up master's degree or to find good immediate employment on the labour market. Graduates of the Sociology SP are qualified for team research work focused on social analysis. Using basic theoretical knowledge, they are able to solve and evaluate partial research and methodological tasks; within research projects, they can perform coordination and leadership activities at lower levels of management. They find employment in private research organisations, state administration and in the non-profit sector in positions that require the ability to understand social phenomena and processes and the ability to work with information and data. They can find employment especially in lower and middle positions, e.g. in research organisations of various kinds, in departments of organisational or personnel development within companies, offices, and other organisations, in analytical departments of the media or in their editorial work, in analytical and development teams of state administration and local government organisations, in development, conceptual or research departments of organisations in the non-profit sector, as well as in private companies.
