SP characteristics
The focus of the programme in French Studies is on modern philology: Graduates will be required to study the French language and the literature of French speaking countries from both a synchronic and a diachronic perspective and with regard to current theory and the history and culture of the regions. Unlike the more general-oriented Bachelor’s degree programme, Master’s students have the opportunity to focus, from the beginning of study, on literature (literary module) or linguistics (linguistic module). These individual modules help them prepare more systematically for a concrete professional activity, deepen their knowledge of methodology and terminology, practice in writing academic papers, etc. The curriculum is training-oriented, with students taking an active part in seminars, giving speeches at symposia, participating in the Prix Gallica and other competitions organized by the French and Canadian embassies.
