This is one of the traditional history-oriented study programmes offered by the Faculty of Arts, Charles University. Its primary aim is to prepare students for continuation in multiple doctoral programmes related to history; at the same time, graduates are prepared to pursue employment careers.

International Relations in the Context of Contemporary History: Graduates have comprehensive knowledge of political, economic and cultural development in the 20th century with a focus on international relations. They can analyse and approach general and specific topics in the context of historical development and from a comparative perspective. They are well-versed in expert historical discourse – contemporary history in an international context. Graduates can seek employment in research centres, state administration and local administration offices in the field of foreign and security policy, in the media, consulting agencies, the tourism industry at all levels, including European. They have team playing skills. Furthermore, graduates are qualified for work in institutions, organizations and companies, both national and supranational, diplomacy, the media and business.
Modern History with regard to European History: Graduates have comprehensive knowledge of world and European as well as Czech history, and can analyse general and specific topics in the context of historical development, independently as well as from a comparative perspective. They are fully acquainted with the subject area of historical sciences and related disciplines both in domestic and international contexts. They are qualified for careers in national, regional and local museums, archives, offices and institutions of cultural heritage and tourism on all levels including European, and also in multinational and supranational institutions, organisations and companies (related to diplomacy, media and business).
Civilization and Culture of the Medieval Europe: Graduates have a grounding in the basic theoretical problems of modern medieval science and can interpret them in the broader context of general historical research. They have advanced methodological skills and are able to formulate their own scientific opinions. They have a solid understanding of the contemporary world in relation to its historical development in earlier periods. This enables them to work primarily in scientific institutions and seek employment as experts in the fields of culture and heritage care and state administration in these sectors.
Ibero-american Studies - Latin American History: Graduates have a theoretical grounding necessary for understanding the problems of Latin America especially in the dimension of the historical development of societies with unique cultures that began in the 16th century drawing on pre-Columbian communities and immigration from other continents. Furthermore, graduates have the ability to expand their knowledge with new facts through their own critical evaluation. Such knowledge is applicable in education, culture, state administration and business.
General and Comparative History: Graduates have comprehensive knowledge of general and comparative history and can analyse and approach general and specific topics in the context of historical development and from a comparative perspective. They are well-versed in expert historical discourse, public history and cultural/historical heritage in a transnational context. Graduates are qualified to continue in a doctoral programme or to seek employment in research centres, regional and local administration institutions, museums, archives, cultural heritage and tourism at all levels, including European. They have team playing skills. Furthermore, graduates are qualified for work in institutions, organizations and companies, both national and supranational, diplomacy, the media and business.
