The course is aimed to prepare students directly for the doctor-patient communication which they will perform in the hospital. The initial topic corresponds to the students´ needs to communicate with patients during their summer holiday medical practice in the hospitals (patient care communication). Following topics are based on the main general medicine specializations (pneumology, cardiology, gastroenterology, urology, gynecology and obstetrics, endocrinology, ENT, dermatology, traumatology, orthopedics and physiotherapy, neurology and psychiatry).
The course focuses especially on listening skills (in the form of doctor-patient dialogues) and speaking (obtaining required information). The core of the course is a professional vocabulary acquisition aimed at general medicine.

ATTENDANCE There are 14 lessons a term and only 3 absences are allowed. Any subsequent absence must be confirmed by a doctor. Doctor´s confirmation must be submitted within 7 days after the missed class. If students miss 4 classes without a doctor´s confirmation, they lose their small points (from micro-oral tests). If students miss 5 classes and more without a doctor´s confirmation, they will not be allowed to sit for credit. In case of any absence a student is responsible for covering all the materials that were taught during the lesson he/she missed, which means that the student has to ask his/her classmates and copy from them all the handouts distributed in the lesson. The student cannot expect that the teacher will give him/her any materials later. The teacher offers consultation hours for those students who attend classes, or for those who apologize for missing a class.
EARNING CREDIT 1) GAINING at least 150 POINTS There will be 4 written tests during Czech classes, each test evaluated by 50 points. Besides that, there will be oral testing at the beginning of each class where students can get up to 2 points. At the end of the term students need to gather 150 points in total not to sit for a written credit test. If students do not gain the required points, they must pass a written credit test. The points gained in the weekly oral testing and projects will be added to the score of the credit test. 2) PROJECT There will be one obligatory project (in the form of a presentation worth of 5 points) and two more optional projects (video presentations for 3 points, posters for 2 points). Possible topics and the format of a project will be specified in the Moodle. 3) ORAL PART Each student must pass an oral part of the credit which is the conversation with a teacher on given topics. It will happen at the end of the term (for those who have already gained 150 points), or during the exam period, after passing the written test.
RULES FOR THE CREDIT TEST IN SUMMER EXAMINATION PERIOD 1) Students who gained 150 points during practical classes will sit only for the oral credit – at the end of the semester or in the examination period. 2) Students who did not reach 150 points have to sit for the written credit test. The first written credit date in the last class of the summer semester is obligatory. In case students are absent from the last class they have to sit for the test on the following available date. 3) Other dates for obtaining the summer credit (both the written test and oral part) will be offered during the summer examination period. Each student must register (or deregister) for any written/oral test via SIS. Mind the deadline for de/registration. The oral credit part will take place after the written test – the same day. 4) Students who did not pass the winter credit, must do so during examination period before the summer credit (this rule is not concerning the obligatory date in the last class). 5) If you register in the SIS and you do not come, that date is counted as an absence, which means „fail“, unless you submit a medical confirmation of not having been able to come for health reasons: the confirmation have to be submitted by 7 days after a missing date. Later papers will not be accepted. 6) There are 3 chances for credit tests, but only on the given dates. If you come on the last date offered and you do not pass, there are not any other chances for you! 7) Students repeating the subject must fulfill all the requirements given above (attendance, gaining points, projects, oral credit).
RULES FOR THE FINAL EXAMINATION The pre-requisite of the oral exam are winter and summer credits passed (see above). Poslední úprava: HOVORKOVAP/LFHK.CUNI.CZ (04.02.2026)
