The study programme in History – Economic and Social History offers research training in economic and social history by providing expertise and skills needed for independent research, a grounding in contemporary historiographical discussions, the ability to address demanding theoretical questions as well as a solid basis for doctoral study. Special emphasis is paid to independent critical work with historical sources; studying economic and social history provides good training in these skills.

Graduates have comprehensive academic skills in history. In research and methodology, these skills rest on a demanding and well elaborated project in economic history or social history. Moreover, graduates have a grounding in complex historiographical debates in the field of economic, social as well as cultural and political history. They are also able to participate actively in these discussions using their research and conceptual skills acquired during the master’s programme.
