The degree programme offers the unique opportunity to study European society as a whole, across a wide variety of disciplines.

It introduces interdisciplinary approaches and provides a critical insight into a wide range of written, material and visual sources, including archaeological. The emphasis is on deepening contextual knowledge of medieval society, its culture and languages in general. Students acquire the necessary special knowledge and skills, according to individual focus. Mediaeval studies expose students to interdisciplinary contacts to a significant degree.

Graduate profile for the public:
Graduates are familiar with mediaeval studies in general and in the particular field of study are introduced to digital humanities approaches and have a passive knowledge of at least one vernacular language of the period. They are able to integrate and critically evaluate results from several fields of research, and are competent in the sources, methods and theories of relevant disciplines. Graduates are able to work in a wide range of cultural, social, educational and scientific institutions, libraries, museums, publishers and others. They find employment in the commercial sphere, especially where appropriate language skills, cultural and historical overview, handling of written texts, historical objects and knowledge of the digital technologies are required.
