The study program is part of a two-stage teacher training for secondary schools and is studied in combination with another subject (geography, geology, chemistry or mathematics) or separately. The program curricula contain both a professional component where students learn about individual biological disciplines, and a a component of of subject didactics, where they learn to apply the acquired knowledge and pass it on to students. An integral part of the study program is also a pedagogical-psychological block of subjects, where students acquire the competencies necessary for their position on the teacher's place. The study also includes listening practice. This field of study is followed by a master's degree, where the student gets another part of the necessary education and competence for full-time performance of the teaching profession.

The graduate has demonstrated the basic knowledge of biology with a deeper insight into individual biological areas. He proved that he can interconnect and use the acquired knowledge in applied biological disciplines. The graduate also has basic knowledge of pedagogy and psychology, and thanks to the field didactic component of the study, he / she can transform the acquired knowledge and skills into the form of subject matter. Last but not least, the study enabled him to gain an overview of biological education in the Czech Republic and the basic methods of his research.

The program graduate is equipped with key competencies in a wide range of biological disciplines. He has applied knowledge in many areas of biological focus, including practical laboratory skills. Graduates are able to prepare, execute and didactically elaborate simple laboratory experiments in the field. They are able to conduct biological field excursion and identify common animals and plants found in the Czech Republic. Graduates master didactic principles and are able to compile and lead a teaching unit. Graduates are also able to work with data and information in terms of searching, critical evaluation, sorting and subsequent analysis. They can discuss, explain, present and transmit information both in writing and orally.
Profession characteristics
The bachelor's degree is mainly focused on the preparation for the follow-up Master's degree programs in the fields of biology teaching for secondary schools in combination with the second subject. Students are also equipped to further study the professional direction of the combined subjects in both subjects. Graduates who do not continue in the follow-up Master's degree program can apply in economics-social institutions oriented to the field of natural sciences, in the educational system as lecturers or pedagogical assistants, in the media as professional editors or in the state administration or departmental organizations of the ministries as professionals.

The graduate has a thorough knowledge of particular biological disciplines. He/she is able to apply this knowledge in laboratories as well as in the field. In addition, he/she has a knowledge of educational system, especially in biology, and has a good command of basic methods of didactic research. He also gained basic knowledge in pedagogy, psychology and didactics of biology. Bachelor study is primarily focused on preparation for the follow-up master study in order to gain full pedagogic, didactic and specialized competencies. Students can also move to one of the specialized biological study fields, or work in some institution oriented to science.
