Study programmes

The bachelor study program Geology for Teacher Education aims to provide students with the theoretical basis in a wide range of geological disciplines and a basic overview of pedagogy and psychology, as well as didactics of geology. The subjects included in the professional geological basis are selected in relation to the needs of future teachers. Therefore, the curriculum not only covers geological disciplines that are apart of teaching especially at secondary schools, but also overviews applied geological sciences and geological sciences in general. The curriculum also comprises field and laboratory work, as well as a number of practical field exercises and excursions. Elementary subjects of the pedagogical-psychological block and an introduction to didactics of Geology are included, too.
The study is mainly focused on the preparation for the follow-up Master's program of Geology in the following study fields – Teacher Education of Geology for Secondary Schools (two-field study) combined with a second field biology, chemistry, physical education). The combination with a second study field provides graduates, who will not continue in the follow-up Master's degree program, with a suitable basis for applying in different educational institutions, media, publishing houses etc.
