SP characteristics
The study programme provides Bachelor-level education which prepares graduates for the follow-up Master’s degree programme of Physics Education at Upper Secondary Schools. Basic knowledge of general and theoretical physics is provided, including common mathematical methods used in physics, with the emphasis on the application of this knowledge and on how it can be understandably conveyed to non-specialists without distortion. Therefore, during the studies, great attention is dedicated to pedagogical content knowledge. The programme also develops skills in communication and working with people, chiefly with pupils and students. Interconnecting physics expertise, didactical aspects and elements focused on personal development and people skills, the programme trains and motivates students for their future career in the field of physics education.

Graduate profile for the public:
Graduates are well-trained in the basics of both classical and modern physics and in common mathematical methods used in physics. This allows them to continue in any of the Physics Master’s degree programmes of their choosing. However, graduates are mainly being prepared for the continuation in the follow-up Physics Education at Upper Secondary Schools programme (graduating which enables one to teach at lower secondary school as well). Therefore, graduates also undergo training in communication, how to work with pupils and students in a classroom, and how to use various activation methods and experiments to help students see physics as an interesting and understandable discipline. Combining rationale, empiricism and people skills, this study programme enables a wide range of applicability. Most importantly, in combination with the mentioned Master’s degree, this programme helps graduates to become brilliant physics teachers (mostly in combination with mathematics), a position that is greatly desired by schools everywhere.
