‘Introduction to State and Politics’ offers an introduction to basic ideas and concepts in the theory of politics with some overflow into issues of the state. Upon a successful completion of this course, students will be familiar with issues incl. definition of the politics and its development, functioning of the state, theory and practice of democratic and non-democratic political systems, theory and practice of political actors, political consequences of elections and electoral systems, definition of main ideological currents that determine the contemporary politics, etc. With regard to the methodology of the course, it will follow the empirical-analytic traditions of contemporary political science, especially in its comparative form.

The aim of this course is to familiarize students with basic concepts and theories of politics, and to teach them to use these concepts in practice, especially when applying them to political practice. This course will teach students not to simply reproduce descriptive procedures but to be able to precisely analyze political phenomena via theory. Hence, the aim of this course is to teach students to a critical approach when exploring and applying political science concepts. Finally, students will be able to conduct scholarly discussions of herein presented topics.

The exam will take place remotely in the summer semester of the academic year 2021/2022, via a moodle2. The exam will consist of a test ("multiple choice"). Moodle will be open to complete the test for 1 hour. Students can use the assigned literature ("open book test") while completing the tests. Exam dates will be opened in the SIS by default. Students will be informed about any changes by e-mail.

91 and more = A

81–90 % = B

71–80 % = C

61–70 % = D
