Annotation

The second part of the course on modern Central European history covers the region's development from World War II to the recent past. It focuses on the V4 countries, as well as developments in Germany and Austria within a broader European and global context. The course traces the formation, evolution, and collapse of local communist regimes, the transformative trends of the 1990s, and the accession of Central European countries to NATO and the EU. Furthermore, it examines the 2007–2009 financial crisis and the initial emergence of populist and authoritarian trends in Central European societies and states, focusing on political, socio-economic, and cultural developments.
