The programme of Portuguese studies is conceived as a programme in Philology with an overlap to area studies. The intensive study of both written and spoken Portuguese, a prerequisite of any other knowledge acquisition (gradient from A1 to C1), is firmly connected with the foundations of Linguistics and Literary Theory as well as with the survey of History, Literature and Culture of the lusophone countries and foundations of philological thought.

Graduate profile for the public:
The graduate has both oral and written competence in Portuguese (level C1) and has good knowledge of the foundations of Portuguese Linguistics, Literary Theory, History of Portugal and Brazil as well as of History of Portuguese and Brazilian Literature. He is acknowledged in the European philological thought, Euro-American Culture and Geography, Culture and History of Lusophony. He/she is prepared to enter an M.A. programme, especially Luso-Brazilian and Ibero-American Studies.
