Kurz je určen pro posluchače bakalářského i magisterského studia ekonomie, kteří dosáhli vyšší střední úrovně (nebo alespoň dobré střední úrovně) a je zaměřen na čtení ekonomických textů, rozšíření slovní zásoby odborného jazyka, komunikační schopnosti, akademické dovednosti a zpřesnění gramatických struktur. Kurz slouží k překlenutí rozdílu mezi obecným jazykem a potřebami studenta ekonomie, který bude v průběhu studia na IES FSV sledovat přednášky v angličtině, číst odborné materiály v angličtině a vyjadřovat své názory k aktuálním tématům na seminářích. Kurz je určen pouze pro studenty IES, případně jiných oborů FSV UK. Z kapacitních důvodů není možné přijímat studenty z jiných fakult.
Studující se speciálními studijními potřebami: Nároky na úlevy nám prosím nahlaste na začátku semestru, v případě potřeby rovněž v průběhu roku, vždy však s dostatečným předstihem. This course is designed for students of Economics studying for both a BA degree and an MA degree. A prerequisite for this course is a required minimum knowledge of intermediate to upper-intermediate level so that students are able to read economic articles from the internet or professional journals. The objective of this course is to expand their vocabulary in terms of business and economic collocations, to improve their communication and academic skills and to achieve accuracy in grammatical structures. Moreover, the course aims at bridging the gap between general English and specific English. The students will need the specific language when attending the lectures in English at this faculty, furthermore, while reading professional journals and books that have not been translated into Czech and last but not least in discussions and discourses when expressing their opinions on particular economic topics. Students gradually learn the language of discussions and negotiations.
The course is intended only for students of IES, or possibly other programmes within FSV UK. Due to capacity reasons, it is not possible to accept students from other faculties.

The objective of this course is to bridge the gap between secondary school English and the needs of a university student.
After the course students should be able:

Požadavky k zápočtu
Obecné podmínky k získání zápočtu:
I. Pravidelné vedení deníku (15 bodů)
II. Projekt v tří/čtyřčlenných týmech, který bude zakončen jeho prezentací a obhajobou na konci semestru (35 bodů)
III. Souhrnný test (50 bodů)
Všechny výše uvedené části jsou povinné, body za ně se sčítají a části I a II musí být splněny před začátkem zkouškového období. Student musí dosáhnout alespoň 70 bodů. Podrobné informace o jednotlivých částech viz níže.
I. DENÍK (15 bodů)
Deník bude nahraný ve složce, kterou s každým studentem bude sdílet vyučující na začátku semestru. Studenti od vyučující dostanou postupně popis úkolů, které je třeba v rámci semestru splnit a odevzdat v předepsaném termínu. Úkolů bude 5 a za každý může student dostat maximálně 3 body. Pokud úkol student nenahraje do složky včas, neobdrží za něj body, ale přesto bude třeba, aby ho do konce semestru odevzdal (absolvování souhrnného testu je podmíněno odevzdáním všech prací v bodech I a II.).
II. TÝMOVÝ PROJEKT (35 bodů)
Studenti se v 8. výukovém týdnu zapíšou do tří/čtyřčlenných skupin. V těchto skupinách se hlouběji zaměří na specifický problém související s probíranými tématy globálních výzev a navrhnou možné řešení (vyučující blíže vysvětlí v 8. výukovém týdnu). V posledních dvou hodinách semestru proběhnou prezentace projektů. Týmy, které nebudou v dané hodině prezentovat svůj projekt, budou zastávat roli komise, před kterou budou muset prezentující týmy svůj projekt obhájit. Na každou prezentaci a následnou obhajobu bude vymezen čas 20 min (10 min prezentace/20 slidů, každý člen týmu 2,5 minuty/5 slidů, 10 minut obhajoba). Prezentující týmy musí slidy k prezentaci a krátkou anotaci poslat vyučující nejpozději týden před konáním prezentace. Vyučující bude po kontrole podklady sdílet s komisí, aby si mohla připravit otázky. Po skončení prezentací komise provede ještě na hodině shrnující zápis. Je nezbytné, aby se těchto dvou posledních hodin zúčastnili VŠICHNI studenti zapsaní do dané paralelky.
Kritéria hodnocení
Prezentace - 20 bodů (kritéria: a) použití akademické angličtiny, b) anotace, c) obhajoba projektu, d) grafická úprava slidů, e) dodržení časového limitu - každá položka za max 4 body) Práce v komisi - 15 bodů (pořízení zápisu/shrnutí prezentace v délce 150 - 200 slov 12 bodů, dotaz na prezentující 3 body)
III. SOUHRNNÝ TEST (50 bodů)
Test je zaměřený na slovní zásobu probíranou v hodinách, akademickou gramatiku (parafrázování, slovesa uvádějící nepřímou řeč, trpný rod, jmenné fráze, formální a neformální angličtina), porozumění psanému textu. V testu je třeba dosáhnout minimálně 60% bodů, tj. 30. Studenti mají tři pokusy. Příklad testu naleznete v souborech v SIS pod názvem Complex test Sample.
Při psaní testu nesmějí studenti používat slovníky ani jiné pomůcky.
Čestnost: předpokládá se, že studenti nebudou při psaní testu podvádět, v opačném případě bude příslušný pokus anulován.
Účast na hodinách se doporučuje, ale není podmínkou k získání zápočtu. Výuka probíhá pouze prezenčně.
Získání zápočtu je podmínkou k zapsání do kurzu JLB004.

Requirements to obtain the credit:
I. Regular journal (15 points)
II. Project in individual teams (3-4 students in each team) which will be concluded with a presentation and defence at the end of the winter term ( 35 points)
III. Complex Test (50 points)
All the above parts are compulsory. Tasks I and II have to be fulfilled before the examination period starts. The pass level is 70 points. For more detailed information about the individual parts see the below information.
I. THE JOURNAL (15 points)
The journal will be uploaded to a folder shared by the teacher with each student at the beginning of the semester. Students will gradually receive task descriptions from the teacher, which need to be completed and submitted within the prescribed deadline during the term. There will be 5 tasks, and for each, a student can earn a maximum of 3 points. If a task is not uploaded to the folder on time, the student will not receive any points for it. However, it must still be submitted by the end of the semester (completion of the complex test is conditional upon the submission of all assignments from sections I and II).
II. TEAM PROJECT (35 points)
Students will enroll in groups of three or four during the 8th week of the winter term. In these groups, they will focus more deeply on a specific problem related to the discussed topics of global challenges and propose a possible solution (the teacher will provide further explanation in the 8th week of the winter term). The project presentations will take place during the last two class sessions of the term. Teams that do not present their project during a given session will act as a committee before which the presenting teams will have to defend their project. Each presentation and subsequent defence will be allocated 20 minutes (10 minutes for the presentation/20 slides, 2.5 minutes/5 slides per team member, 10 minutes for the defence). Presenting teams must send their presentation slides and a brief abstract to the teacher no later than one week before the presentation. After review, the teacher will share the materials with the committee so that they can prepare questions. After the presentations, the committee will make a summary record during the session. It is essential that ALL students enrolled in the respective seminar attend these last two class sessions.
Evaluation Criteria
Presentation - 20 points (criteria: a) use of academic English, b) annotation, c) project defence, d) slide design, e) adherence to the time limit - each item worth up to 4 points)
Committee work - 15 points (preparing a summary of the presentation, 150-200 words, 12 points; asking a question to the presenters, 3 points)

Attendance is optional although recommended.
Honesty: students who will be caught cheating during the test will be disqualified and will have to try again in compliance with the above conditions.

Vstupní požadavky -
Studenti musí mít jazykové znalosti alespoň na stupni B2 (upper-intermediate). Vstupní test se nepíše, student musí prokázat splnění Z a ZK z angličtiny před ukončením státní bakalářské zkoušky, tzn. angličtinu si může zapsat a splnit podmínky během celého bakalářského studia.

The required level of English is at least the level B2 (upper-intermediate). There is no placement/entrance test. The student must pass the credit test and the final examination test within their bachelor study, which means that the student may enrol in the course during their bachelor study.
