Basic knowledge of Internal Medicine is important for graduates of Dentistry for the following reasons: 1) Understanding the manifestations of internal diseases in the oral cavity. 2) Choosing optimal approaches to the treatment of oral diseases in patients with internal medical conditions. 3) An essential component of general medical education. In the summer semester of the 3rd year, the teaching focuses on mastering physical examination, basic laboratory and clinical tests, cardiology, pneumology, and gastroenterology.

Perform basic clinical examination of a patient, with emphasis on assessing overall condition and vital functions.
Knowledge of fundamental symptoms of internal diseases, their significance, and basic differential diagnosis.
Knowledge of basic pharmacotherapy of internal diseases, with emphasis on medications relevant to therapeutic procedures in dentistry.
Knowledge of manifestations of internal diseases in the head, oral cavity, and neck.
Strengthen competence in basic emergency resuscitation, including the use of an automated external defibrillator.
Recognize acute conditions requiring urgent medical care.
Identify manifestations of internal diseases based on findings in the oral cavity or systemic symptoms that require specialized internal medicine evaluation.
Practical Skills
Medical history taking: A Dentistry graduate will be able to perform a comprehensive medical history, including family history, social history, personal history, pharmacological history, allergy history, and history of present illness. This skill is essential for identifying systemic diseases that may influence dental treatment or require modification of therapeutic procedures.
Assessment of vital signs: A Dentistry graduate will be able to assess basic vital functions (consciousness, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, temperature) and interpret the results with a focus on recognizing critical and severe conditions.
Recognition of acute, potentially life‑threatening conditions: A Dentistry graduate will be able to recognize and respond appropriately to the most common urgent conditions: cardiac arrest, impaired consciousness of non‑cardiac origin, syncope, epileptic seizure, stroke, allergy/anaphylaxis, hypoglycemia, angina pectoris, sepsis, shock, respiratory failure.
Basic emergency resuscitation using an automated external defibrillator: A Dentistry graduate will be able to initiate and perform basic life support using an automated external defibrillator.
Analysis of current pharmacotherapy: A Dentistry graduate will be able to analyze chronic medication with special focus on drugs that may influence dental care. They will have basic knowledge of selected drug classes specified further in the curriculum.
ECG, Laboratory Diagnostics, Imaging Methods: A Dentistry graduate will be able to / will know how to recognize basic ECG pathologies (atrial fibrillation, ventricular fibrillation, asystole, ST‑segment elevation), interpret results of basic laboratory tests (complete blood count, coagulation tests, basic biochemical panel: Na, K, Cl, urea, creatinine, uric acid, bilirubin, ALT, AST, ALP, GMT, CRP, cholesterol, LDL, HDL, TAG, glucose, TnT, NT‑proBNP, urinalysis and urine sediment), understand basic principles and indications of commonly used imaging methods: ultrasound, X‑ray, CT, MRI
