Kurz je určen pro posluchače bakalářského i magisterského studia mezinárodních vztahů, kteří dosáhli pokročilé úrovně- B2/C1. V kurzu se studenti obeznámí se slovní zásobou používanou v oblasti mezinárodních vztahů. Je potřeba zdůraznit, že tento kurz je především kurzem jazykovým a jeho cílem není studium teorie mezinárodních vztahů. Kurz slouží k překlenutí rozdílu mezi středoškolským jazykem a potřebami studenta mezinárodních vztahů, který bude v průběhu studia na IMS FSV sledovat přednášky v angličtině, číst odborné materiály v angličtině a vyjadřovat své názory k aktuálním tématům na seminářích.
Kurz v zimním semestru je zakončen zápočtem.

This course is designed for students of International Relations studying for both a BA degree and a MA degree. A prerequisite for this course is a required minimum knowledge of upper-intermediate level- B2/C1. This course will provide students with the crucial vocabulary from the study field of international relations. It should be noted that this is not a course in theory of international relations, but rather a language course. The course aims at bridging the gap between secondary school English and specific English. The students will need the specific language when attending the lectures in English at this faculty, furthermore, while reading professional journals and books and last but not least in discussions and discourses when expressing their opinions on specialized topics. In the fall semester, the course ends in "zápočet," i.e. a credit.

Cíl předmětu -
Cílem kurzu je překlenout propast mezi středoškolskou obecnou angličtinou a potřebami studenta FSV. Po absolvování kurzu by student měl být schopen sledovat odborné přednášky v angličtině doma i v zahraničí, diskutovat se zahraničními studenty, obhájit své názory a účastnit se zahraničních stáží.

The objective of this course is to bridge the gap between secondary school English and the needs of a university student. After the course students should be able to follow lectures in English, discuss topics in English and do the internship abroad in an English speaking country.

Studenti si osvojují slovní zásobu a jazykové dovednosti prostřednictvím studia odborných textů. Důraz se klade na čtení, nicméně během vlastních hodin i na komunikaci, výměnu informací a názorů ve dvojicích nebo v malých skupinách, týmovou i individuální práci.

Students get acquainted with the specific vocabulary and its content on the basis of texts. Reading is crucial; nevertheless, the emphasis is also laid on communication, the exchange of information and discussions. The methods used are pair work, group work or sometimes individual work.

Požadavky ke zkoušce -
PODMÍNKY K ZÍSKÁNÍ ZÁPOČTU:
1.Dva písemné testy v průběhu zimního semestru (cvičení ve formě: multiple-choice, gap-filling, word formation, matching, True and False, grammar exercises, stručné vyjádření na dané téma v rozsahu 80ti slov). Data budou oznámena hromadným emailem. Testy budou založeny na vybraných novinových článcích a znalostech získaných při práci s doplňkovýcmi materiály (poslech, diskuse apod.). V polovině semestru se bude psát test zaměřený na novinové články 1-5 (mid-term test) a "Glossary" z oblasti mezinárodních vztahů (viz soubory) a druhý test- credit test se soustřeďuje na novinové články 6-10 a gramatická cvičení z R.Murphy: English Grammar In Use (Units 1-90)-všechny časy, modální slovesa, podmínkové věty, trpný rod, souslednost časová, otázky a pomocná slovesa, tázací dovětky, gerundium a infinitiv, členy a podstatná jména a zájmena. Oba testy budou také pokrývat doplňkové materiály. Studenti mají pouze jeden pokus.
2.Pro úspěšné splnění mid-termu a zápočtového testu je třeba dosáhnout 70% správných odpovědí z celkem 50 bodů. Časový limit testu je 45 min.
3.Studenti, kteří nesplní podmínku k zápočtu uvedenou v 1.bodu, tj. jeden z testů neudělají (tj. absence při psaní obou testů či pouze jednoho z nich nebo nedosáhnou požadované úrovně apod.), budou psát komplexní test (complex test) ve zkouškovém období.Test bude v rozsahu 100 bodů a bude třeba dosáhnout 70% úspěšných odpovědí.Test je založen na všech materiálech výše zmíněných. Tento test mohou studenti opakovat 2x, čili mají celkem 3 pokusy. Časový limit testu je 75 min.
4.Účast na hodinách se doporučuje, ale není podmínkou k získání zápočtu.
5.Čestnost: Mravní integrita je nepostradatelnou součástí tohoto kurzu. Během testů není dovoleno používat knihy, poznámky, mobilní telefony nebo jakékoliv jiné materiály. V případě porušení této dohody bude student z testu diskvalifikován.
6.Získání zápočtu je podmínkou k zapsání do kurzu LB008.
V SIS v položce Soubory (nejprve se přihlašte do SIS systému, klikněte na Předměty, zadejte správný kód předmětu a na horní okrové liště se objeví volba Soubory) jsou k nahlédnutí vzory mid-term testu, zápočtového testu a komplexního testu, podkladové články a rovněž další užitečné materiály.

PREREQUISITES TO OBTAIN THE CREDIT FOR THE CLASS, the so called "zápočet":
1.To pass two written tests scheduled in the winter semester.The tests consist of multiple-choice, gap-filling, word formation, matching, True and False, and other grammar exercises, a short essay/opinion (80 words) on a given topic. The dates of these tests will be announced via mass e-mail. The tests will be based on the set of newspaper articles and on the knowledge gained during our work with additional materials (listening, discussions, etc.). The first test will be based on the articles 1-5 (mid-term test) and the "Glossary" from the area of International Relations (see the attached files) and the second test- credit test will be based on articles 6-10 and the grammar exercises from R.Murphy: English Grammar In Use (Units 1-90)-all the tenses, modals, conditional sentences and wish, passive voice, reported speech, questions and auxiliary verbs, question tags, gerund and infinitive, articles and nouns, pronouns and determiners. Both tests are also going to cover the additional materials. There is only one trial.
2. It is necesary to reach 70% of correct answers out of the total of 50 points to successfully pass the mid-term and credit test. The time limit is 45 min.
3.If a student has not fulfilled the conditions described above (didn't write both tests or one of the tests or failed one of them), he or she will have to take a complex test in the course of examination period - the passing level will be 70% of correct answers out of 100 points. The complex test will be based on all the study material mentioned in point 1. Students will have in total 3 trials- one regular, two retakes. The time limit will be 75 min.
4. Attendance is not mandatory. However, participation is strongly recommended.
5. Honesty: This course applies the policy of academic integrity. No books, notes, cell phones or other material assistance may be used at any of the tests. Violation of this policy results in failing the test.
6. Students are required to obtain the credit to be able to enroll in the course LB008.

Sylabus -
Motto našich hodin: "Expecting more, demanding high."
Každý týden se budeme věnovat jednomu tématu z oblasti mezinárodních vztahů a to čtením tématicky zaměřených textů a vyplňováním tématicky zaměřených cvičení. Články studentům poslouží k rozšíření slovní zásoby; čtení článků je určeno pro samostudium. Studenti budou vyzváni k tomu, aby je vlastními slovy shrnuli a poté vyjádřili svůj názor na danou tématiku. Názor si musí obhájit. Veškeré potřebné články budou k dispozici na SIS. Je povinností každého studenta si tyto články okopírovat před začátkem hodiny. Za účelem zpestření diskuzí mohou být studentům přidělena témata na krátkou prezentaci. Zadaná gramatická cvičení jsou určena pro domácí přípravu.
Materiály poskytnuté studentům a používané při výuce slouží výhradně ke studijním účelům pro zapsané posluchače kurzu Angličtina pro IMS I. Nejsou určeny k dalšímu šíření. Tématické okruhy:

The motto of our sessions, "Expecting more, demanding high."
Each week we will examine one major topic from the field of international relations based on the text material and completion of a variety of exercises. Students are expected to read the assigned class material at home prior to attending the class. Through readings the students will enlarge their vocabulary and will be encouraged to summarize the article in their own words, to present and defend their own opinion. All the reading material will be available on SIS. Students are responsible for copying these reading materials prior to the class.
The materials provided to students and used during the course are exclusively for the purpose of study for registered members of the course English for IMS. They are not intended for wider distribution.
To stimulate discussion, students may be assigned to give short presentations on selected readings. All the grammar tasks will be assigned for home preparation.
