The city is producing culture and at the same time is a product of culture. It is a palimpsest, composed of layers which can be observed and read. The exploration of historical layers of the city invites to apply the concept of heritage (cultural heritage, patrimoine). The course approaches to cities from the perspective of social historians, anthropologists, and architects. The exploration of historical layers offers a reverse perspective of explaining the city against the time, starting with present situation, and descending into past. |
