Předmět je zaměřen na oblasti diagnostiky a poradenství v raném a předškolním věku (vývojová diagnostika, diagnostika motorických dovedností, vnímání, laterality, prostorové orientace, komplexní diagnostika školní zralosti, podpora rozvoje dítěte předškolního věku a prevence specifických poruch učení). Studenti se seznamují také se zásadami poradenské práce a specifiky administrace kvantitativních (standardizované a nestandardizované testy) a kvalitativních diagnostických metod (pozorování, rozhovor, analýza produktů).
