SP characteristics

The follow-up master’s study programme in Sinology provides graduates with a grounding in Chinese civilization relying on good Chinese language skills, the aim of the programme being to train experts in informed intercultural communication. The master’s degree is a prerequisite for continuation in the doctoral programme in the History and Culture of Asia.

Graduate profile for the public:
Graduates have an advanced understanding of the different styles of the modern Chinese language and of the theoretical problems related to China’s transformation in the modern era. They have skills in reading texts written in Classical Chinese. Their choice of elective courses also provides graduates with an advanced understanding either of Chinese Language and Literature (nuances of modern Chinese, major figures of Chinese thought and literature) or of History and Culture of China (modern history, political and ideological trends), including related research methodologies. Graduates are qualified to work in specialised cultural institutions, publishing houses, the mass media and state administration.
