SP characteristics

The primary aim of the study program Introduction to Social Sciences with a Focus on Education is to provide broad general education in social sciences and some humanities: sociology, political science, law, sociocultural anthropology, developmental and social psychology and psychology of personality, religious studies and economy as well as in philosophy and ethics. The specific features of the program are interdisciplinarity and focus on topical problems of the recent world. Attention is, thus, paid to, among others, such themes as contemporary problems of democracy, history of political parties, questions of collective identities, anthropology of family, world religions, globalization processes and international relations as well as environmental ethics. Both theoretical and practical training in didactics and psychology and education methodologies are a part of the package. The program is unique in providing a broad horizon of knowledge in the field of social sciences and philosophy. The goal is to endow students with skills and knowledge that allow them to continue studying the master program Training Teachers of General Subjects at Lower and Higher Secondary Schools – Introduction to Social Sciences, or to enroll in any other master program in social sciences of students’ choice.

Graduate profile for the public:
The graduates of the study program acquire a broad introductory education in social sciences – sociology, political sciences, law, social, cultural and linguistic anthropology, religious studies, psychology and economy. They have an elementary overview about philosophy, its history and its basic forms of inquiry – ontology, epistemology and philosophy of human existence as well as philosophy of language. The graduates are able to understand ethics from historical perspective as well as from a point of view that relates ethic to fundamental problems of contemporary world and its prospects. They are able to think about those themes in psychology, educational and didactical context. All that allows them to continue studying the master program Training Teachers of General Subjects at Lower and Higher Secondary Schools – Introduction to Social Sciences, or to enroll in any other master program in social sciences of students’ choice. The graduates have knowledge and skills that are useful for working in both governmental and public administration, in institutions dealing with social problems or in NGOs focusing on those questions. They may find a job in institutions and organizations specialized in research, development and innovations in the field of education. Due to a broad education in social sciences, they can work in media. The graduates shall have skills that allow them to find a job in the administrative departments of Czech and international companies. The graduates are trained in team work and able to design and solve various projects. They are able to provide elementary analyses of the kind that is typical for social sciences.
