UPDATED INFORMATION ON THE ORGANIZATION OF PATHOLOGY INSTRUCTION FROM 18.5.2020 AND ON OBTAINING CREDITS FOR THE SUMMER SEMESTER

Dear colleagues,

after re-evaluating the current quarantine measures, rules about the maximum allowed number of persons in a class (which remain the same at maximum of 15 persons) and other uncertainties, we have decided that pathology instruction will remain in a distance form as currently in effect until the end of the semester.

The following are the rules concerning the granting of credits for summer semester:

1)      All of the students will receive their credits automatically from their group teacher, on the last week of the semester (1.6. – 5.6.2020), which has been specifically assigned for this purpose. Given that the slide examination has been cancelled for this semester and the credits will be given automatically, there are no seminars or practice lessons planned for the last week of the semester and this time can therefore be used for example for consultations (based on arrangement with your group teachers).

2)      Students who will be sitting the pre-term exams need to contact their group teacher sufficiently ahead of time and ask them to grant their credits at an earlier date.

3)      It is not necessary to have your credits written down and signed in your index books (!). It is only mandatory to have your credits put into the SIS, which will be done automatically as specified above. Your group teachers will also put and sign your credits into your individual student cards kept here at the Institute, so it is possible to have your credits put in your index books by your examiners when you attend your exam (as they will have the information available in your card). It is therefore not necessary to try and arrange a date with your group teacher so that they can sign your credits in your index books beforehand – it can be done when you sit your exam.

4)      If you are going to be taking your exam in the distance way, the credit as well as the result of the exam and the examiner´s signature will be put into your index book at the earliest possible time when you can physically visit the Institute, based on a previous personal arrangement with the relevant teacher. It is not necessary to have this information signed in the index book for it to be valid – only the information in the SIS is relevant.

UPDATED INFORMATION ON THE ORGANIZATION OF PATHOLOGY INSTRUCTION FROM 11.5.2020

Dear colleagues,

by the decision of the Czech Republic government concerning the progressive loosening of the quarantine measures imposed on university education, as of 11.5. it will be possible to have classes in groups of up to 15 persons. The decision also states that before entering the educational institution in question every student must provide a signed Statutory declaration confirming the absence of infectious viral disease symptoms (e.g. fever, cough, dyspnea, sudded loss of smell and taste etc.). Students will only be allowed to attend in person if they are free of any acute health problems which could signify the presence of viral infectious disease (see https://www.lf1.cuni.cz/file/88306/cestne-prohlaseni-en.doc).

However, given that the number of students of some of your classes exceeds the allowed limit of 15 persons and the fact that not all of you are in the Czech Republic, the pathology instruction will continue fully in the currently established distant form.

As a reaction to the new measures we are re-instituting the possibility of attending consultations with individual teachers in person. It order to secure such a consultation it is necessary to contact individual teachers beforehand and arrange a date and time with them. The possibility of consultations via MS Teams remains in place.

You will be updated on the organization of the pathology instruction, which will be in place for the week starting from Monday 18.5.2020, sufficiently ahead of time, as soon as the relevant updated quarantine measures become available to us.

UPDATED INFORMATION ON THE ORGANIZATION OF PATHOLOGY EXAMS

Dear colleagues,

all of the exam terms for the summer semester will be published on the SIS on the 6.5.2020 (the first block of exam dates will consist of the pre-term dates up to and including 30.6.2020, the possibility to sign up for these terms will be open from 12.5.2020). The exam period is extraordinarily extented this year and, as usual, the list of exam dates is extensive. However, we would like to make it clear that the exam dates as they are published on the SIS (dates as well as number of spots available) is strictly final and it is impossible to make any changes to them.

There are only 2 exceptions for which certain adjustments may be made:

1) The first of the exceptions is related to the following published statement: „In the case when a student cannot attend their exam (or any other form of study progress control) in person, or if the exam needs to be postponed as a result of coming into contact with an infectious person during volunteering activities, the student should be enabled to sit their exam in the distant fashion online. In the case of exam in person, the student will be allowed to re-sit the exam at the earliest possible term following the contact with an infectious person (the time duration is based on the judgement of each individual department). If at that time there are no free avaiblable terms at the previously published exam terms, the department will open a special exam term for the purposes of the student´s re-sit.

2) The other potential exception is the transfer between types of exam terms (that is switching between in person and distant terms), given that we are not currently capable of predicting precisely which type of exam will be needed more and at what time, so the type of exam may change depending on the situation at that time.

The exam terms published in the SIS will be marked as either distance or in person. The course of the distant exam and its arrangements is described in the instruction by the Dean no. 5/2020 (Czech version is available here: https://www.lf1.cuni.cz/document/88297/5-20.pdf - we will provide a link to the English translation as soon as it is available).

The Department of Pathology has set the criteria for choosing the distant exam option as follows (therefore it is not possible to choose distant exam solely based on the personal preferences of any given student):

1)      the student cannot attend the exam in person for objective reasons, e.g. being located abroad

2)      the student cannot attend the exam in person because they are in breach of the requirements stated in the Statutory declaration regarding COVID-19. (see https://www.lf1.cuni.cz/file/88306/cestne-prohlaseni-en.doc).

We would also like to mention that the terms on the SIS are set to begin at 8:00 by default, but based on the number of students and current quarantine measures in place it is possible that you will be invited for your exam for a different time. This would be done on an individual basis ahead of the scheduled date and you will be informed about the time change beforehand by either email or a telephone call.

UPDATED INFORMATION CONCERNING THE DISTANT FORM OF PATHOLOGY EXAM (the detailed information is available uploaded here, in the Files section):

o   the list of exam questions used in the distance and presence exam is identical and does not differ in any way. The list corresponds to the list of exam questions which is available on both the SIS and on the website of the Instite of Pathology.

o   each student will be allowed to use a clean sheet of paper and a pencil/pen (see the information above)

o   the expected duration of the distance exam is 35 minutes including the preparation time, the real duration may however be different based on the course of the examination

o   each student will be allowed a preparation time of 10 minutes in total (applicable for all of the 3 exam questions combined, see the information above)

Rules for performance on examination at the Institute of Pathology in the subject Pathology

Rules for specifying examination dates, registration and cancellation for an exam and re-examination. All dates on which the exam can be taken will be listed on SIS from last days of March in agreement with the academic calendar. This number of dates will be definitive.

1) Specifying the examination dates

The dates of examination will be announced in the 5th week of the semester . They will be entered in the SIS. All dates on which the exam can be taken will be specified. This number of dates will be definitive.

The examination dates (also called “terms”) will be set in the following periods:

A subject in the summer semester

- pre-terms (during the last two weeks of the semester)

- terms in the regular examination period of the summer semester (June)

- terms during summer holidays (July- August)

- terms in the second part of the regular examination period (September in agreement with the academic calendar)

A subject in the winter semester

- terms in the regular examination period of the summer semester (June)

- first 2 weeks in summer holidays (July)

- terms in the second part of the regular examination period (September in agreement with the academic calendar)

The last term can be held not later than two weeks before the beginning of the next academic year (see the Rules). After that, no more exams can be performed or terms applied for, even if not all possible terms/resits offered have been taken.

2) Rules for registration for exams and cancellation

The start of registration for specific examination dates will be entered in SIS, and it will be different in particular groups of terms.

It will be specific for the following groups of terms:

- pre-terms + regular terms: from  last days of March (according to the given schedule from the Dean´s Office)

- terms during summer holidays + terms in the second part of the examination period: from  the end of the June terms

A student can only take the exam if registered for the term in SIS, and when all requisites for the exam have been met.

Registration for an exam is not determined by obtaining the credit but taking the exam is, apart from the credit in the given subject, also limited by completion of any subject that is specified as a (pre)requisite. A student who fails to meet the given requisites will be deleted from the list for the term before examination, of which he/she will be informed by e-mail. This deletion will not reduce the number of terms further available for the student.

Registration for particular examination dates (“terms”) will be possible at the latest 2 days prior to the date of the exam.

Cancellation will be possible at the latest 3 days prior to the date of the exam.

3) Failure to turn up for examination and apology

The student who fails to turn up for the examination that he/she has registered for cannot register for another examination date (see Regulations, Article 6, Subsection 16, and Rules, Articles 8 and 9).

The student must apologise in advance (except apparently serious conditions)  to the principal teacher of the subject (otherwise the term will be lost - the number of attempts reduced):

Prof. MUDr. Jaroslava Dušková, CSc., jaroslava.duskova@lf1.cuni.cz

or to the person authorized by the latter:

Alena Gajdošová, alena.gajdosova@lf1.cuni.cz

in writing or in electronic mail, giving and substantiating the reasons for the apology.

The student will be informed about acceptance of the apology and also deleted from the original list so that he/she can register for another date.

The principal teacher of the subject can require specification of the apology or its reasons if he/she finds the apology insufficient.

4) Re-examinations

A student can take an examination in a subject for three times as a maximum, i.e. the student is entitled to two re-examinations, and no extraordinary terms beyond that are allowed (Regulations, Article 6, Subsection 16). However, if the student does not exploit the above options within the set examination dates, this does not entitled him/her to a special date of examination to be appointed for him/her personally (ibid.).

No more examination dates (“terms”) will be set.

Further, no examinations can be taken after the end of the second part of the regular examination period in September, or after the last term announced. No extraordinary terms or “Dean’s terms” are allowed.

The Examination Process (valid for standard presence exams)

  • The final examination takes place in the form of a spoken exam:
  • The necessary prerequisite is credit.
  • Three questions will be examined: one question from the General pathology list (1-88), one question from the Organ pathology list (1-128), one question from the Orofacial pathology list (1-31).
  • The preparation time for all three questions is 15 minutes in total, either in the form of uninterrupted 15 minutes or split into 3 corresponding parts (5 minutes for each question) in the case when several students circulate with one examinator at a time
  • the order in which the questions are answered is firmly set – it is not possible to start with the second or last one
  • In order to successfully pass the exam, none of the questions can be marked „unsatisfactory“
  • No aids are allowed for the examination – esp. mobile phones, smartwatches or notes prepared prior the exam
  • Refreshment and drinks are not to be consumed during the examination or preparation time
  • Visits to the toilet room once the questions have been chosen by the student may result in the assignment of a new set of examination questions – this decision rests with the examinator.
  • The re-examination period is at least one week
  • The choice of a specific examinator is not possible
