Magické rukopisy ukazují náboženské představy jako něco velmi živého; prozrazují, na koho se lidé obraceli, když
se ocitli v kritických životních situacích, jak si představovali božskou nebo jinou moc, která přijde situaci vyřešit, i
způsoby, jak na tuto moc vhodně zapůsobit, aby vše dopadlo podle přání. Cyklus přednášek, který bude založen na
původních egyptských křesťanských pramenech z 5-12. století, se pokusí přiblížit užití Bible a biblických i
apokryfních motivů jako „mocných příběhů“ v koptské magické praxi a ukázat specifickou „praktickou theologii“ a
imaginativní logiku při jejich volbě a zpracování.
Podmínky získání zápočtu: účast (min. 8 přednášek), přečtení 1 odborného článku z doporučené literatury a
orientace v něm.

Tematické okruhy jednotlivých přednášek (pořadí může být změněno): 1) Kořeny: magie staroegyptská; historiola a užití příběhu v léčení; řecké magické papyry; staroegyptští bohové v koptské magii; křesťanské historioly. 2) Pojmy, definice, zúčastněné bytosti (božské i jiné). Typy magických textů, receptáře a amulety. Jak to (asi) fungovalo: struktura magického textu, důležitost jeho materiální povahy, propojení s rituálem. Nomina sacra, voces magicae, charactéres. Ikonografie. 3) Čaroděj, magik, rituální specialista v koptské literární tradici i praxi. 4) Raněkřesťanské polemiky. Problémy a specifika magie křesťanské. Užití bible - citace, incipity, Ježíšova vlastní slova. Vliv liturgie. 5) „Logika“ a fantazie magických textů. Výběr biblických motivů ve vztahu k problému, který bylo potřeba vyřešit. Lal, Mulal a Bulal a jiné oblíbené biblické postavy. Léčebná a ochranná magie. 6) Obraz Boha a Ježíše v koptských magických tradicích; magická theologie. 7) Bible a agresivní magie (milostná zaříkadla, vázací kletby …). 8) „Právní kletby“ a jejich mnohé biblické inspirace. 9) Adam, Eva a rajský příběh v koptské magii.
