Students will learn the technical and creative basics of photography and the digital process. The important part of the class is analyzing pictures and achieving greater visual literacy. Students should be interested in visual culture and photography. The class is time-consuming; it is necessary to take photographs every week outside the timeframe of lectures. The aim of the class is to master photographic process with Digital Single Lens Reflex camera, to understand and master photography process, digital workflow, to achieve basics of creative, compositional and decompositional part of photography. Mastering of digital photographic camera leads to the ability to previsualization, work better with any type of modern automatic digital cameras. Students should broaden their visual literacy skills, master basics of the photographic process and taking photographs, and learn about basic characteristics of the photographic medium in general. !!!!The course requires independent work outside scheduled lectures (taking pictures)!!! Requirements: 1) Obligatory final online exam (max. 30 points) will consist only of the information covered in the class. The minimum required grade for successfully finishing the course is E (at least 16 points). This is a mandatory requirement. 2) Active participation in lectures and labs is expected. (max. 5 points) 3) Five photo assignments, submit on time! (max. points 65 - 13 each) Topics: Technology of Photography and Composition, Light, Photo Editing, Portrait, News Story
Assignments evaluation: Each assignment might be evaluated with up to 13 points. This evaluation consists of: 1) On-time submission (10 points) - One hour before the class commences. Note: Assignments not submitted via MOODLE on time are automatically evaluated with 5 points less if submitted within a week from the deadline. If they submit later than that, they are not evaluated at all and thus receive 0 points. 2) Photo evaluation (additional max. 3 points) - The picture quality of each photo assignment will also be evaluated. Only the submission that will prove the qualities outlined below will receive these 3 points. Three aspects are evaluated:
FIRST DEADLINE – The assignment must be submitted no later than one hour before the start of the class! SECOND DEADLINE – An assignment not submitted via MOODLE on time is automatically evaluated with 5 points less if submitted within a week from the first deadline. NOT SUBMITTED/SUBMITTED LATE – If submitted more than two weeks after the first deadline, the assignment is evaluated with 0 points. NO EXCUSES NOTE – Please be aware that the assignments submitted after the first deadline might not be discussed in class because of time constraints.
GRADING Successful finishing: at least 51 points.
