Social policy and social work contribute to processes of societal integration and disintegration in modern welfare states. The course aims to introduce major social issues and concerns in the Czech Republic which are closely associated with social work. During the course, we will focus on the interdependence of the two fields: a) how the reforms in generalized social policy schemes affect social work top-down and b) on the bottom-up influence of social work(ers) on the making of social policy, as well as the role of social workers as implementers. The course will explore theories and concepts related to social exclusion and integration, legal concerns and bring examples of practical applications to be analysed and discussed by the course participants. The specific topics, policies and target groups and populations covered in the course are dependent on the selection of the quest lecturers same as the UpToDate societal challenges and needs.
