Within the course, relevant topics related to current issues of rights enforcement, political representation, and civic-participatory mobilization will be examined, to which the social (welfare) state responds, as well as the ways and forms of these responses and the problems that may be associated with them. A common denominator will be neoliberalism and the various obstacles it poses both to the welfare state in general and to social policies in particular.
The topics addressed will include migration, (sub)cultural differences, racism, ethnic and religious discrimination, and gender equality. At the same time, it will be possible to include topics based on students’ interests.

Cíl předmětu
The aim of the course is to introduce the forms, phenomena, barriers, and problems that are typical of contemporary variations of the welfare state. Students will gain a basic insight into current issues that can be linked to the field of contemporary social policy and social work. The purpose of the course is to strengthen the ability to connect macro-social perspectives with micro-social ones and to identify the influence of social consciousness on social actors.

To successfully complete the course, students will be required to present a paper on a topic of their choice.
