The course will focus on philosophical foundations and reflections of social work. In the course, we will read and discuss the main philosophical works that relate, directly and indirectly, to social work and its foundations, including social justice, human vulnerability, caring for and supporting others, and equality. The reading will start with Plato and Aristotle, as two foundational sources, moving to key works on human rights and vulnerability. The main emphasis will be placed on 20th century philosophy (Weil, Levinas, Arendt, Tronto, Butler).
