Cílem předmětu je seznámit studenty s využitím sociálněvědního výzkumu pro zlepšení politiky a praxe ve zdravotnictví a sociální péči, a zároveň odstranit případné obavy z výzkumné činnosti. Studenti získají praktický vhled do jednoduchých, srozumitelných a efektivních výzkumných metod, které lze použít k řešení konkrétních problémů. Kurz nabídne příklady aplikace různých výzkumných designů na problémy spojené s rozvojem péče o duševní zdraví v ČR i mezinárodně. Absolventi by měli být schopni nejen kriticky uvažovat o tom, jak výzkumem zlepšit praxi ve své odborné oblasti a jak se rozhodovat na základě důkazů, ale také realisticky posoudit možnosti implementace těchto důkazů v rámci společenských podmínek. Tyto dovednosti budou užitečné pro bakalářské, diplomové, ale i rigorózní či disertační práce.
