Anotace -
The goal of the course is for the student to understand the subject and methods of comparative education, to learn to search for and use domestic and foreign knowledge about educational systems and pedagogical problems in other countries, and to critically assess the Czech school system based on knowledge of development trends in the world. This is an introduction to the discipline of comparative education, where attention will be paid not only to the definition of historical milestones, goals and specifics of this discipline, but also to the methodology and analysis of selected European educational systems. Analysis of applied pedagogical topics will be provided as well. Students will be guided to work with current international information sources and statistics related to the topics discussed.

1. Definition and meaning of comparative education

2. International Comparison Tools (ISCED)

3. Models of educational systems and their effects

4. International comparative studies (IELS, PIRLS/TIMMS, PISA)

5. National versus transnational governance of educational systems and the role of international organizations (EU, WTO, UNESCO, OECD...)

6. Problems of Czech education from the point of view of international comparison
