Man kann natürlich nur fest entschlossen sein, sich und andere mit diesem Menschheitsthema zu überfordern. Andererseits betrifft es merkwürdigerweise jede/n, und hier beginnt auch schon das Schweigen, das von allem der Rest ist. Da heraus hilft vielleicht allenfalls eine willkürliche Auswahl von Texten und Themen, die einen irgendwann einmal persönlich angesprochen haben und das vielleicht auch bei anderen tun: Texte oder Auszüge, die für eine Epoche / Strömung, eine bestimmte Konstellation als repräsentativ gelten können. Auch nicht-belletristische Gebrauchstexte wie Traueranzeigen und Leichenpredigten sollen berücksichtigt werden, ebenso andere kulturelle Phänomene wie z.B. anhand des Ausstellungskatalogs „game_over. Spiele, Tod und Jenseits“ (Kassel 2002). <br>

On the other hand and curiously enough, that subject indeed does leave nobody untouched, and that already seems to be the beginning of silence which in turn is the rest of everything. One possible and modest way out of this may be nothing more than a somewhat arbitrary choice of texts and subjects which, at one time, have set something into motion in oneself and, perhaps, might do so with others as well: Texts or excerpts which might be regarded as somehow representative of some period of time or some movement, some constellation. Non-belletristic texts like obituaries or funeral sermons are to be taken into consideration as well, just like other cultural phenomena e.g. to be found in the exhibition catalogue "game_over. Das Erkenntnisinteresse ist keine ‚dekonstruktivistische‘ Relativierung des Themas, sondern ein produktiver Austausch darüber, wie Geschichten vom Tod (und Sterben) erzählt werden und welche Geschichte des literarischen und kulturellen Umgangs mit dem Tod sich in ihnen spiegeln. Eigene Anregungen und Vorschläge der Teilnehmer/innen sind willkommen. The course does not aim at a 'deconstructivist' dissolution of the subject but at a creative and result-orientated discussion of how stories on death (and the dying) are being told and what kind of history of literary and cultural ways of dealing with death are reflected in those stories. Vorausgesetzt wird eine Teilnahme an mindestens 80% der Präsenzzeit des Seminars und die aktive Beteiligung am Seminargespräch. Abschlussbedingung: Vorstellung eines der angebotenen Seminarthemen (oder eines geeigneten Themas eigener Wahl nach Absprach) in einem ca. 20minütigen Vortrag und Moderation der anschließenden Diskussion, ca. 5 seitige (Fließtext) schriftliche Zusammenfassung des Vortrags und ggf. der Diskussion.
An active participation in at least 80 % of the time of the class is presupposed as well as an active participation in the discussions of the seminar. Graduation from this class presupposes an oral presentation of a given subject or of another appropriate subject chosen in cooperation with the teacher and a written summary of presentation and discussion in class of about 5 pages length.
