Anotace

Könnte es sein, dass zwar auch in der Literatur alles fließt, meist aber an den Hauptfiguren vorbei? Dass Flüssiges als literarisches Motiv zwar nahezu überall vorkommt, aber bei Produktion wie Rezeption eher als Nebensache durch die Finger rinnt? Dann wäre zu fragen, wie man es trotzdem erfassen könnte als Kulisse, Feld für strategische Spiele, Elementarereignis, Seelenspiegel der Vereinsamten, Projektionsfläche für Einheits- und Verschmelzungsphantasien? Als Rauschmittel für Verliebte und Einsame wie der Wein, oder als blutige Unterschrift unter dem Teufelspakt? Bleibt Flüssiges Nebensache, ein Motiv der Verlegenheit, oder wird es in seinen historischen und kulturellen Konnotationen erkannt und ausgewertet? Wie schließlich, wenn überhaupt, lässt sich seine Verwendung literaturwissenschaftlich auf den Begriff - besser auf Begriffe - bringen?<br>
Sicher entwirft auch dieses Seminarthema eine Fahrt ins Unbekannte. Vielleicht werden sich nur grobe Karten von Hauptströmungen zeichnen lassen: Flüssigkeiten als gleichermaßen inspirierende Rausch- wie Transportmittel, Inselutopien, der bekehrte Einsiedler Simplicius Simplicissimus, Nationen bildende Ströme wie Hölderlins Rhein; Stromgottheiten und Grenzflüsse, Wiedergänger bei Theodor Storm, Thomas Manns, des Meerfahrers mit Don Quijote, Lagunenhalluzinationen von Venedig, andere Seefahrten ins Exil und schließlich Überseepoeten wie Hubert Fichte und dessen programmatischer kultureller Synkretismus, schließlich der Hudson und die Ostsee in Uwe Johnsons „Jahrestagen“. Eigene Vorschläge für ergänzende Lektüren sind willkommen.<br>

Could it be possible that in literary works, as well, everything is in flow, but normally does pass the main characters without resistance? That liquids as a motif in belletristic texts are almost ubiquitous but during production as well as reception trickle away between our fingers? In that case one might have to ask how the liquid element could nevertheless be caught as a scenery, a field for strategical games, an eruption of violence, a mirror of lonely souls, imaginary screen for hallucinations of unity and melting into one. As a drug for lovers and lonely persons like wine or as a bloody singature under the Devil's pact? Do liquids keep a negligible status, do they just stay an embarrassing - if at all - triviality, or are they being recognized and evaluated in their historical and cultural connotations? How - and again - if at all - might their use be conceptualized on a philological - and probably multi-layered - basis?
To be sure, this subject might as well sketch a trip into unknown regions. Possibly only some more prominent currents may be mapped: Liquids as equally inspiring vehicles of intoxication and transportation, Utopian islands, the convert and hermit Simplicius Simplicissimus, nation building streams like Hölderlin's Rhine, gods of rivers and rivers on / as borders, revenants on the sea-side as in Theodor Storm, Thomas Mann's, who crossed the Atlantic while reading "Don Quijote", hallucinations of the lagoon in Venice, other voyages by sea into exile, and finally overseas' authors like Hubert Fichte and his programmatic cultural syncretism and Hudson and Baltic Sea in Uwe Johnson's "Jahrestage". Your own proposals of further subjects are welcome.

Cíl předmětu

Interpretation und Einordnung konkreter Texte mit dem Ziel, Deutungsmöglichkeiten für Darstellungsweisen und Funktionen von "Flüssigkeiten" in unterschiedlichen Genres und Epochen kennenzulernen und kritisch bewerten zu können.

Interpretation and classification of specific texts, aiming at coming to know ways of how to understand techniques of representation and functions of 'liquids' in different literary genres and periods of time, and of how to critically assess them.

Podmínky zakončení předmětu

Vorausgesetzt wird eine Teilnahme während mindestens 80% der Präsenzzeit des Seminars und die aktive Beteiligung am Seminargespräch.

Abschlussbedingung: Vorstellung eines der angebotenen Seminarthemen oder eines passenden selbst vorgeschlagenen Themas in einem ca. 20minütigen Vortrag und Moderation der anschließenden Diskussion, ca. 5 seitige (Fließtext) schriftliche Zusammenfassung des Vortrags und ggf. der Diskussion.

An active participation in at least 80 % of the time of the class is presupposed as well as an active participation in the discussions of the seminar.

Graduation from this class presupposes an oral presentation of a given subject or of another appropriate subject chosen in cooperation with the teacher and a written summary of presentation and discussion in class of about 5 pages length. The latter refers to the text only; the presentation should have a duration of about 20 minutes.
