Anotace

Traditional sociology was based on so called methodological nationalism, as when it non-reflectively identified the society with the national state. The aim of the lecture is to exceed this narrow conception and introduce a historical sociology of politics in a global context. The lecture is methodologically based on a theory of international relations and mainly on historical-sociological approaches toin the theory of international relations.

Sylabus

Structure of Lessons:

1. Theory of international relations (realism, liberalism, constructivism)

2. Geopolitical theories (Ratzel, Mahan, Mackinder, Spykman, etc. - polarity of land versus naval power)

3 Hobbesian, Kantian and Grotian conceptions of the international order.

4. Pre-international systems according to Buzán and Little Bands of hunters and gatherers- interaction capacity)

5. Plurality of international systems in the ancient world according to Buzán and Little (city-states, empires, nomadic tribes, nomadic empires)

6. Ancient systems according to Adam Watson (Sumer, Akkadian Empire, an international society of Greek city-states, interaction with Persia, royal peace).

7. The emergence of the European society of states according to Adam Watson (Medieval Societas Christiana, Renaissance, and Reformation, Habsburg efforts for hegemony.

8. European society of states in the early modern period (Westphalian system), the policy of balance of power in the 18th century, Napoleon's attempt at empire, the Congress of Vienna.

9. Interaction of the European society of states with Asian systems: (Ottoman Empire and capitulations, integration of Russia into the system, integration of Turkey into the system, integration of Japan into the system).

10. Disintegration of the European concert of great powers, the First World War, the Versailles system and the League of Nations, the Second World War, the bipolar world, decolonization.
