This course explores selected ethical and epistemological issues in sociocultural anthropology by examining topics that generate sharply contrasting viewpoints or are considered controversial. In addition to developing students’ anthropological thinking, the course aims to strengthen their critical reflection and interpretive skills. Each topic (see below) is approached through two texts whose authors take opposing positions on a question of fundamental importance to sociocultural anthropology. Students are expected to read and understand medium-length academic texts in English (up to 30 pages) and to prepare independently for their discussion in class.
