This is one of the UPCES courses (the Undergraduate Program in Central European Studies); comprehensive information is available at https://bakalar.fhs.cuni.cz/SHV-211.html. Why are some countries poor and other countries rich? What are the factors of growth? What is the role of political and economic institutions in the development process? How can aid foster growth and development? This course aims to address these questions in view of the theory and empirics of economic growth.

Students are required to follow the instructions and requirements specified in the course syllabus. Attendance is mandatory. Regular attendance is necessary in order to attain credits and a grade. Students are allowed to have only one unexcused absence per semester. Exam Dates Winter Semester: the beginning of November (midterm exams); before the middle of December (final exams) Summer Semester: the first half of April (midterm exams); before the middle of May (final exams)

This is one of the UPCES courses held in cooperation with our partner institution CERGE-EI, designed for US students and Czech and international students of the Faculty of Humanities. These courses are scheduled either twice (2x90 min.) or once (1x180 min.) a week in the CERGE-EI classrooms (Politických vězňů 7, Praha 1). Attendance is mandatory.
