This is one of the courses of the UPCES programme (the Undergraduate Program in Central European Studies); the comprehensive information is available at: http://fhs.cuni.cz/FHS-239.html#3. This course and accompanying excursions will introduce students to the history of the Czech Republic and its capital city, Prague, while also showing the development of its urban structure and main social functions.

Cíl předmětu

This is one of the courses of the study abroad Undergraduate Program in Central European Studies (UPCES) held in cooperation with the partner institution CERGE-EI. It is designed for the US students participating in the programme as a whole while the Czech and international students of the Faculty of Humanities are welcome to selecte single courses from the programme.

Podmínky zakončení předmětu

Students  are required  to follow the instructions and requirements specified in the course syllabus. 

Attendance is mandatory. Regular attendance is necessary in order to get credit and grade.

Students are allowed to have only one unexcused absence per semester.

Exam Dates

Winter Semester: beginning of November (midterm exams); before the middle of December (final exams)

Summer Semester: the first half of April (midterm exams); before the middle of May (final exams)

Metody výuky

This is one of the UPCES courses held in cooperation with the partner institution CERGE-EI, designed for the US students and the Czech and international students of the Faculty of Humanities.

These courses are scheduled either twice (2x90 min.) or once (1x180 min.) a week in the CERGE-EI classrooms (Politických vězňů 7, Praha 1)or in the Jinonice Campus.

Attendance is mandatory. Regular attendance is necessary in order to get credit and grade.

Students are allowed to have only one unexcused absence per semester.

Požadavky k zápisu

Podmínky zápisu:

• REGISTRACE v SIS
• ÚČAST NA VÝUCE V PRVNÍCH 2 TÝDNECH VÝUKY PODLE ROZVRHU DANÉHO KURZU (v letním semestru začíná výuka v UPCES kurzech shodně s ostatními kurzy FHS)
• V případě studentů bakalářského studijního programu je zápis do předmětu možný až od 2. semestru studia

Studenti si mohou zapsat nejvýše 2 UPCES kurzy za semestr. Pokud se po první hodině rozhodnete kurz dále nenavštěvovat, s ohledem na své kolegy se co nejdříve odregistrujte.

Kapacita kurzu: (FHS studenti včetně samoplátců) + (zahraniční non-degree studenti) viz celkový počet míst (záložka "detail" předmětu).

Jedná se o UPCES kurz, pravidelná docházka je povinná.

In order to be enrolled in the course, you have to:

• be registered in the SIS
• be present at classes during the first two weeks of the teaching period according to the schedule of the course (in the summer semester the teaching period in the UPCES courses starts within the same week as in the other FHs courses)
• The FHS degree students (both Czech and international ones) can attend these courses from the second semester of their studies onwards.

For the FHS degree students (both Czech and international), the overall number of UPCES courses to be enrolled in is limited to the maximum of 2 courses per semester.

For the FHS Erasmus and other non-degree students, the overall number of UPCES courses to be enrolled in is limited to the maximum of 2 courses per semester depending on the course capacity.

For the students enrolled at other CU Faculties than the FHS, these courses are available only if the course capacity allows (i.e. not all the places are used by the FHS students).

In order to allow other students to register, please do not forget to unregister from all the courses you decide not to take as soon as possible.
