Předmět plní zčásti remediální, zčásti konsolidační, zčásti motivační i prohlubující funkci. Je zaměřen primárně na languové disciplíny. Propojuje teorii s praktickou analýzou autentických textů, s využitím konfrontačního pohledu.

The function of the course is partly to remedy, partly to motivate and partly to enhance the students’ understanding of selected areas of the English language. It focuses mainly on the langue disciplines. It interlinks the theoretical background with the analysis of authentic texts, employing a contrastive approach.

Podmínky zakončení předmětu -
a) Aktivní práce v semináři (lze omluvit dve absence za semestr)
b) Podle počtu zapsaných posluchačů cca dvě prezentace na zvolená teoretická témata ze sylabu; osnovu prezentace je třeba zaslat elektronicky ke schválení nejpozději dva dny předem
c) Podle počtu zapsaných posluchačů cca dvě vzájemná studentská hodnocení prezentací za semestr
d) Podle počtu zapsaných studentů cca dvě prezentace dílčích praktických analýz ukázky
e) Podle počtu zapsaých studentů prezentace cca dvou výukových aktivit zaměřených na probraná témata a dvou stručných prezentací výrazných odlišností mezi češtinou a angličtinou v daném tématu
f) Písemný test. Student/ka může získat až 10b za odevzdanou písemnou podobu jedné z teoretických prezentací, až 10b za teoretický test a až 20b za prakticko-analytickou část testu založenou na autentické
ukázce. Pro úspěšné absolvování kurzu je stanoven minimální požadavek 28/40b. Součástí hodnocení ve všech složkách je i formulační úroveň.
Pozn. Posluchači mohou žádat výklad témat v konzultačních hodinách během odbobí výuky, nikoli ve zkouškovém období. Předpokladem je obeznámenost s příslušnou odbornou literaturou.

a) Active participation in class activities (two missed seminars per semester are tolerated)
b) Depending on the number of course participants approximately two presentations on selected syllabus theoretical topic(s); an outline of each presentation has to be sent electronically at least two days before the presentation for approval
c) Depending on the number of course participants approximately two peer-reviews of presentations per semester
d) Depending on the number of course participants approximately two presentations of practical sample analyses per semester
e) Depending on the number of course participants approximately one presentation of two teaching activities relevant to the syllabus topics per semester and two short presentations of the topic-related differences between Czech and English
f) Written test. The student may get up to 10pts for turning in the written version of one of their theoretical presentations, up to 10 pts for their theoretical test and up to 20 pts for the practical-analytical part of the test based on a text sample. For a successful completion of the course there is a minimum requirement of 28/40pts. The assessment criteria in all parts include the student´s proficiency and their formulation skills.
Note: Students can ask for explanation of topics in office hours during the teaching period (not during the exam period). Familiarity with relevant secondary sources is taked for granted.
