The course concerns with meteorological phenomena which can produce damage or even casualties. It deals in more depth with the phenomena caused by atmospheric storms presented in the mandatory course Natural Hazards and Risks. Moreover, it presents also other phenomena that are not related to atmospheric storms, such as abnormal air temperature. Following aspects of the phenomena are discussed: definition of the phenomenon; prediction, measurement, and evaluation methods; mechanisms producing the phenomenon and its possible variants; impacts; geographical and temporal distribution (annual and diurnal distribution, cycles, and possible trends).
