Anotace

Practical exercise extends the knowledge from the Vertebrate diversity lectures. Passing the Vertebrate diversity
lectures and exam before the practical exercise is obligatory because it significantly improves understanding of the
practical tasks. The practical exercise concentrates on the vertebrate fauna of Central Europe. It consists of four
half-day blocks focused on the main vertebrate groups and species of the region, species identification and
biology.

There will be four half-day blocks in April. Of course, there will be more possibilities for choosing the most suitable term.

Upon successful completion of this practical exercise course, students will be able to:

Knowledge and Understanding (Practical Application)

• Identify key diagnostic features used to distinguish major vertebrate groups of fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals found in Central Europe.
• Describe the characteristic habitats and ecological roles of common species from the Central European vertebrate fauna.
• Explain the basic life history strategies, including reproduction and feeding habits, of representative species within the region.

Skills (Identification and Data Handling)

• Utilize field guides, dichotomous keys, and other identification to accurately identify common and ecologically significant vertebrate species in the field or from specimens.
• Differentiate between closely related species (e.g., similar rodent species, related frog species) based on subtle morphological details.
