As part of the thesis project, which is a key component of the follow-up Master’s programme, the student works on a given topic. Due to the broad scope of the MSc programme in Parasitology and Infectious Biology, the thesis topic may originate from various disciplines covered by the curriculum, such as parasitology, microbiology, mycology, virology, immunology, epidemiology, diagnostics and therapy of infectious diseases, or other related fields.
Methodologically, the thesis project may involve work with databases and scientific literature, field research, laboratory experimental activities, or other related professional tasks, including bioinformatics, statistical, structural biology, geographical, or psychobiological approaches. The student develops expertise according to the chosen topic, becomes familiar with methods specific to the type of research, and applies them to the studied subject. The project also includes comparing the applied methods and obtained results with available literature data. For this reason, a literature review is an essential part of the thesis, helping to refine the research topic and select the most suitable methodological approaches.
Throughout the thesis project, the student regularly consults the obtained results with the supervisor. Work on the assigned thesis topic begins in the winter semester of the second year of the follow-up Master’s programme.
