Discourses on victimhood have become a steadfast feature of political discourse in recent years. The occurrence
and prevalence of victimhood discourses are seen by many as good or bad for a society. For the former, these discourses motivate marginalized groups and voices to find recognition and restitution for their suffering. For the latter, though, these discourses are perceived negatively through groups failing to take responsibility or accountability for their suffering. However, to what extent are these preconceptions harmful towards our understanding of victimhood and their expressions in the material world? In this course, students familiarize themselves with theories and conceptualization of victimhood in the 21st century and their material impact. This is primarily achieved by exploring victimhood from the individual to collective entities in both Eastern and Western contexts. In doing so, this course aims to teach students critical thinking competencies in understanding and examining victimhood in the 21st century. Poslední úprava: Váška Jan, Mgr., Ph.D. (06.12.2024)
