It is seriously considered the coming of schooled society, and that education is one of the leading institutions, not the secondary or subsidiary one. Education is likely to penetrate many domains of human lives. This course offers students an introduction to the discipline "from the end" - to the current problems that the sociology of education solves but also that faces as a discipline. Many problems have been inherited from its modern phase. However, there are many new problems arising from the new conditions of today's societies, such as the digitalisation of education and new distant learning, nationalism and populism in education, neoliberalism and marketisation of universities, new ways of governance and control of actors (students and teachers), new legitimisation practices, new topologies and topographies of educational policy and educational practice, or the blurring of the boundary between private and public education. And last but not least, the problematisation of the very critical sociology of education and the efficiency of critique.

The goals are as follows:
students will understand the basic concepts by which the sociology of education understands and explains the processes of formalised socialisation.
students will be able to recognise an educational problem in relation to contemporary society
students will be able to analyse current problems of education from a sociological perspective and not from the perspective of certain stakeholders who offer definitions of desirable education.
students will be able to sociologically reflect on their own educational experience as a twin issue of education and society.
