This course is open to all interested BA students with deeper interest in research of relations among expertise, political parties and welfare state. The attention is focused on discussion about possibilities how to research these relations. The emphasis is placed on discussion and formulation of research projects focused on the research of expertise in political parties in cases of transformation of policies constituting the welfare state.

The aim of the course is not only to get participants acquainted with selected issues of expertise, political parties and the welfare state transformation, but also to enhance their knowledge and skills in areas of critical thinking, critical reading of the foreign texts, presentation of own opinion in academic discussion, linking theoretical findings and conceptualizations with current praxis, time-planning of the study, and participation in research work.

General aim is to integrate students into research activities and thus create bases of academic community which would develop research in these issues.

The credits will be assigned after fulfilling appropriate rate from following conditions (plagiarism and other misconducts against academic and good manners will prevent passing the course):
1) attendance (min.  10 approved attendances in all 3 workshops)
2) own critical interpretation of chosen text (circa 20 min) + guiding the debate (max. 11 points)
3) conspectuses (9 times 1-2 pages) of studied texts/approaches containing main ideas of the texts and their links to current praxis (will be used to warm up discussions) (max. 27 points)
4) seminar exercises + preparation (max. 12 points)
5) active participation in the course (bonus max. 5 points)
Total    max. 50 points

The course takes place in blocks lecture/seminar (1/1) on Fridays 2.3. introductory lecture (9.30-10.50), 16.3., 13.4., and 4.5. 2012 (9.30-13.50) in room J3019.

This course is open to BA students with deeper interest in research issues of relations among expertise, political parties and transformation of the welfare state. The class is scheduled in block (3-times per semester) to allow students enough time for studying the texts and preparation. The class is intended to enhance discussion; therefore careful preparation for the class is necessary condition.

The passive command of English is supposed.
