IMPORTANT NOTE: COURSE STARTS IN THE WEEK OF 28TH OCTOBER 2013 DUE TO DR. JUST'S ATTENDANCE OF FELLOWSHIP ABROAD. MISSED CLASSES WILL BE REPLACED UPON HIS ARRIVAL. STUDENTS WILL BE INFORMED ABOUT REPLACEMENT DATES ON 4TH NOVEMBER 2013.

The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to the political system and political development of Czechoslovakia and its successor states, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, since 1918 up today.

The course will be divided into 4 parts:
1.) Czechoslovakia 1918-1945 - so called First Republic, World War II., Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia, Slovak Republic;
2.) Czechoslovakia 1945-1992 - Communist regime, reform attempts in 1960s, normalization, so called Velvet Revolution, split of Czechoslovakia;
3.) Czech Republic after 1993 - political system and political development of an independent state
4.) Slovakia after 1993 - political system and political development of an independent state
