Kurs analyzuje různé aspekty prezidentského úřadu USA z pohledu jeho držitele a vysvětluje napětí mezi přáním veřejnosti po silném vůdci a snahou účastníků politického procesu prezidenta kontrolovat a omezovat. Kurs dále zkoumá prezidentův potenciál využívat prezidentské pravomoci a rozšiřovat je.

The course offers an insight into numerous facets of presidential office and explains the tension between the public´s desire for strong leadership and attempts of other participants of political process to control and/or limit presidential powers. President´s potential for power implementation will be discussed.

Cílem předmětu je dosáhnout porozumění podstatě moci vyplývající z prezidentského úřadu, a to zejména s ohledem na osobnost jeho držitele. Zkoumání bude podrobena interakce prezidenta s exekutivou, legislativou a soudní mocí, ale rovněž s veřejností a médii.

The aim of the course is to reach understanding of the core of the presidential power, namely methods and limits of its use with respect to the personalities of the respective presidents and their relation with executive, legistlative and judicial branches, and public and media as well.
