Předmět je určen studentům magisterského studia. Po celkové charakteristice volebního procesu bude následovat analýza prezidentských voleb USA, které rozhodujícím způsobem ovlivňují rozložení americké politické scény, a to buďto potvrzením stávající administrativy nebo její změnou. Kurs stručně zmapuje historický vývoj výběru amerických prezidentů a bude charakterizovat politické prostředí, v němž se volby odehrávají. Dále kurs analyzuje nominační proces. Těžiště kursu spočívá v podrobném zkoumání prezidentské kampaně, mj. její strategie a taktiky, práce médií a jejich vlivu na postoje veřejnosti v jejím průběhu, jakož i vlivu výzkumů veřejného mínění. Zvláštní pozornost bude věnována rovněž midterm electins, které jako volby druhého řádu plní nejen funkce obměny poslaneckého sboru, nýbrž i indikátoru veřejného mínění ohledně výkonu prezidentské funkce. Výklad k jednotlivým tématům bude podle možností ilustrován na vybraných "case studies". Jazykem výuky je čeština, pracovní znalost angličtiny žádoucí.

The course is focused on the analysis of the U.S. presidential election. Following the general specification of the election process in the U.S,, it sums up the historical development of the presidential selectin and gives the chacteristics of political environment. Nomination process, campaign rules, impact of media, and attitudes of the public including the public opinion polls phenomenon will be examined. Attention will be paid to controversial aspects of the selection process.Special attention will be paid to midterm election that not only changes the composition of Congress but indicates presidential approval as well. Where relevant, the lecture will be accompanied by case studies. Language of instruction is Czech.
