Cílem kurzu je seznámit studenty s analytickým a konceptuálním rámcem, který jim umožní pochopit příčiny a realitu politicky fragmentovaného světa a zpomalující globalizace a s tím související proměnu geopolitických přístupu (např. konec just-in-time approach v oblasti bezpečnosti). Ambicí kurzu je představit studentům koncepty, historické souvislosti, či strukturální síly, které formují akce a zájmy klíčových geopolitický aktérů světové politiky. V neposlední řadě kurz nabízí studentům možnost jak porozumět zdánlivě nesouvisejícím fenoménům a možnost pochopit dlouhodobější trendy, které "determinují" zájmy a rozložení moci ve světě tak aby byli schopni porozumět a vysvětlit globální politiku dneška a zítřka. Celkové hodnocení je založené na výsledku závěrečného testu (multiplechoice s jednou správnou odpovědí, kombinuje otázky z přednášek i semináře, přibližně 20 otázek) a semináře. Závěrečný test tvoří 50% a seminář 50% celkové známky. Kurz nelze úspěšně absolvovat bez splnění podmínek seminární části (aktivní účast a skupinová prezentace). 1) závěrečný test (v průběhu zkouškového období, vypsány jsou minimální 3 termíny a v případě potřeby i opravný termín), 2) Seminář: a) aktivní účast (všechny semináře), 2) skupinová prezentace/50 %.
