The essence of the course is to discuss trending topics and influential ideas through the lenses of social science, and especially political science. The aim here is to encourage students to explore alternative ways of thinking, reflect on their own experiences, connect to a topic, and improve analytical skills. MOODLE: https://dl2.cuni.cz/course/view.php?id=4931 The course will be conducted in a hybrid/dual form. Hybrid courses at IPS will be carried out through Windows Teams. Students joining through Windows Teams ae expected to have the camera turned on to earn !a participation point". QUESTIONS For each lesson the students will read the assigned text and submit 4 questions for the discussion based on the reading via Moodle. The lesson itself will be made of guided discussion that will focus on the themes of the text and their contextualization in the contemporary world of politics and social issues. The questions will be submitted online through Moodle. The deadline for the submission is the Saturday before the lecture 11:59 pm. Questions submitted after this deadline will be automatically deducted 50% of the marks. POSITION PAPERS Students will also submit 4 position papers. In the beginning of the semester students will choose four assigned readings and write position papers referring to them. Each position papers should contain summary of the text and author`s position on the particular issue. Required minimum word count of position paper 600 words. Maximum word count of position paper 750 words. Maximum word count for the summary of the literature 250 words. The position papers willl be submitted online through Moodle. The deadline for each PP is the Sunday before the corresponding lesson. It is not possible to write PP on a given topic after the lecture.
