Anotace

Course description:


This course is an introduction to the modern politics and government of Central and Eastern Europe after the fall of communism in 1989. You will not only learn about the most important and contemporary political events, but you will also learn to apply basic concepts of comparative politics to Central and East European political practice.

The aim of this course is to leran and understand the modern politics and government of Central and Eastern Europe after the fall of communism in 1989.

Podmínky zakončení předmětu

Requirements:

Participation in the lectures. Reading the required literature. Be prepared to answer the questions and discuss relevant topics. Passing a final exam. Final exam consists of written test. Answers to a questions (cca 5) should be short analysis of some tasked topics related to the problems involved during the lectures. 

Grading policy:

Class participation/attendance - 10 %
Paper or other assignment - 20 % 
Final exam - 70 %

Final exam will consist of an in-class test (with open questions).

 

Grading from the total result is determined as follows:

91 and more = A

81–90 % = B

71–80 % = C

61–70 % = D

51–60 % = E

0–50 % = F

1)     understand the fundamentals of politics and government in East-Central Europe,

2)     identify the main turning points in the development of politics and government in the 20^th century and present,

3)     evaluate particularities of politics and government in the region.
